We are big believers in standards. Why? Standards allow companies across the travel industry to connect and do business together. In our case the most important standards are the ones that estalish how systems from two or more companies can communicate electronically.
Think of these standards as a common language for the travel industry based on the language of the web, which is XML (eXtensible Markup Language). If PEAK 15 wants to communicate electronically with another system about a tour, those two systems need to agree on a consistent structure to describe that tour including the name of the tour, where it goes and when and how much it costs.
Standards of this sort are in widespread use in almost all segments in the travel industry-- from airlines, to hotels, to cruises. The tour operator and outfitter segment, however, has lagged behind. We are helping to change that because we think it is key to helping our customers grow their businesses in a sustainable and profitable way.
By helping drive the defintion of standards for the tour operator industry
through organizations like the OpenTravel Alliance (www.opentravel.org) we are enabling:
• Tour Operators with complimentary offerings to work together
• Tour Operators to market or sell more easily through traditional
or online travel agencies
